Maltese Dogs Food Tips
Have you ever ask yourself “What is the best food for my Maltese“? Do you know what to feed your precious dog to keep him/her healthy?
I asked this question myself when my Maltese got sick. It didn’t cross my mind he’s got sick because of the food he was eating. After all, I was giving him everything he wanted…and that was wrong!!!!
Are you listening to your Maltese begging? Here is an interesting response I’ve got from our Maltese Facebook fan page after I asked the question: “What is your Maltese favor food”?
As you read the comments you can see that people feed their dogs with many different types of food and some of them are not a dog food. So are you doing your Maltese dog a favor by giving him what HE wants or are you harming him unintentionally?
How about when your Maltese doesn’t like the dog food at all?
“This is a common problem and one that is not easy to break. Your little sweetheart has trained you well and it may be difficult to break this behavior.
There are two ways to approach this problem.
The first way is to admit defeat and feed your baby people food the rest of his life. This is something that can be done but it requires a commitment on your part to prepare him a nutritionally complete and balanced diet. He is relying on you to provide for him and his instincts aren’t going to help. Most homemade diets are not nutritionally balanced and can lead to long-term health problems later in life. “
“…The other way to approach this is with tough love. This involves weaning him back onto dog food. There are many dogs that are finicky about their food and it is because they have been spoiled with people food. People’s food isn’t always bad. What is healthy for people is often healthy for dogs but their nutritional needs are different.” – http://dogingtonpost.com/finicky-maltese-wont-eat-dog-food/#.UjoZdD-iLEV
Homemade Dog Food For Your Maltese
Have you tried to feed your Maltese dog with a homemade food? This sure is an extra work but it’s worth it. I start feeding my Maltese with the homemade food when he developed some digestion problems and since then we don’t have these problems anymore. The extra benefits are that he loves this food much better than the can or dry food, especially the freshly made one.

Using A Slow Cooker To Prepare The Dog Food
The slow cooker may the way to go for these who are trying to make the job easier for themselves when preparing the dog food for your Maltese. This probably will save you some money in the process as well. You can use left-over meat and veggies which otherwise would take a space in your fridge until you remember about using them.
Are you the one who is buying a variety of dog food for your Maltese because you think the VARIETY is a good thing? That’s exactly what I was thinking. After all, I wouldn’t like to eat the same boring food over and over again. But it looks that I was wrong again.
“…how much variety one single food really needs to provide. Many people think that much-advertised products with long ingredient lists, including several types of proteins, grains, fruits, veggies and other supplements must be better to feed than “boring” formulations with limited ingredients. Fact is that the more ingredients a food has, the smaller the number of individuals who will be able to tolerate the product, and your dog might just be one of them! Feeding a more limited formula of commercial food and providing variety by adding healthy, fresh, unprocessed food items (of which you know your dog tolerates them) is a much better approach and actually adds nutritional value.” – http://www.dogfoodproject.com/index.php?page=choosing_the_right_food
